Barbecue Lamb Recipe

orange divide

This is a wonderful, savory barbecue lamb recipe, scented with fresh mint and chopped mint leaves.

All meats taste wonderful when they are barbecued or grilled, but there is something about the delicate taste of lamb.

It seems to combine especially well with the charred taste that results from cooking it on the barbecue.

This recipe for grilling lamb adds the fresh taste of chopped mint leaves, a perennial favorite with lamb.

Add melted butter, a bit of garlic and onion and the tang of a bit of dry mustard and you have a bit of grilled heaven waiting for you.

If you are grilling over charcoals outside, using a gas grill or indoor grill or a smoker, you will probably love this recipe.

It's great for entertaining too.

1 leg of lamb
fresh mint
dry mustard
pepper
onion juice
1/2 cup butter
1/2 clove garlic
1 tablespoon grated onion
1/4 cup chopped fresh mint leaves
salt and pepper

Preheat the barbecue or indoor grill.

Have the butcher bone and flatten the leg of lamb. At least 2 hours before cooking, cover the leg with fresh mint. Rub with dry mustard, pepper and onion juice.

Mix together 1/4 cup of the butter, the 1/2 clove garlic and a tablespoon of minced onion. Gently cook for 5 minutes to create a sauce. Take out the garlic and add 1/4 cup chopped fresh mint leaves and the last 1/4 cup of butter.

Place the lamb on the grill and brush often with the warm sauce while it cooks. After 20 minutes, season the meat with salt and pepper and turn it over to grill on the other side.

If you like your lamb pink, it should be done in 35-45 minutes. If you prefer well-done, it will take about 15 minutes longer.
