Hot Chocolate Recipe

orange divide

This silky sweet hot chocolate recipe will warm tummies delightfully on even the coldest days.

Who doesn't love chocolate?

On a cool day, is there anything much nicer than a steaming mug of that sweet delicacy when you come in from the cold? I think not.

This recipe for hot chocolate is very very easy to make.

Using ingredients you probably have on hand in your pantry, you can concoct this smooth sweet drink recipe in just minutes.

The recipe calls for unsweetened baking chocolate, which you can get in your grocery store.

If you really want to kick it up a notch though, use your favorite bitter chocolate. The better the chocolate you use, the better it will taste.

I have to admit though, that even with the bakery aisle unsweetened chocolate, this sweet, creamy treat is very delicious.

Give it a try on a cold day.

3 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate or your favorite bittersweet chocolate
1 1/2 cups water
1/3 cup sugar
dash of salt
4 1/2 cups milk

Heat the chocolate and water in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.

Stir in the sugar and salt. Heat to boiling then reduce heat to low. Simmer uncovered for 4 minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in the milk. Heat just until hot, do not boil because skin will form on top.

Beat with a hand beater until foamy or stir until smooth, then serve immediately.

Makes 6 cups.
