150 Best Thai, Vietnamese and Indian Slow Cooker RecipesAdd to Recipe Box
Well Sunil Vijayakar has developed 150 of them in his new cookbook 150 Best Indian, Thai, Vietnamese and More Slow Cooker Recipes.
It’s a fantastic cookbook for anyone who wants to cook authentic tasting Indian, Thai and other Asian cuisines, but doesn’t always have a lot of time.
This cookbook shows you how to do turn wonderful Thai, Vietnamese and Indian food into easy crockpot recipes. How fantastic is that?
Now these recipes, like most of the slow cooker recipes you find, do take a bit of prep work and a bit of sauteing ahead, but then you simply put it all in the crock pot and let it work it’s magic.
Now, even if you have very little cooking time, you can come home to the rich, aromatic smells of Indian and Asian food cooking away in your own kitchen.
Crock pot recipes from this book include:
- Butter Chicken
- Bombay Chicken Curry
- Chile and Tomato Chutney
- Spiced Chickpea Curry
- Saffron Rice
- Mushroom Pilaf
- Tamarind Fish Curry
- Creamy Lamb Korma
- Sri Lankan Coconut Dhal
- Pineapple Chutney
One point worth noting is that many of these crockpot recipes cook in less than an 8 hour work day, so if you want to make them in the morning and come home to a hot dinner in the evening, you will need a programmable crock pot with a “warm” function. That way your food will stop cooking after the allotted time, but still be hot and ready to eat when you get home.
You should note too that many of the recipes call for a food processor. I find that I can often get away with fine chopping by hand or using a blender to crush and blend ingredients but a food processor is what is called for.
I love Indian and Thai food, as well as the cuisines of surrounding south Asian countries like Vietnam, so this cookbook is a real hit with me.
If you like the flavors of these countries and enjoy the convenience of slow cooker recipes, this cookbook is a must buy.
About the Author
Sunil Vijayakar is a cookbook author and food stylist based in London, UK specializing in food preparation for editorial, packaging and recipe development.
Here is what a reviewer says about this tasty cookbook:
Lisa M. Mims from Austin, TX says this in her review of 150 Indian Slow Cooker Recipes:
“Every single recipe in this book is gluten-free, if you use gluten-free cornstarch and soy sauce.
When I got this book, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven. Indian, Thai and Vietnamese food tends to be mostly gluten-free anyway, so it’s a good source of gluten-free recipes.
Most of the recipes are easy to follow, and the spices are easy to obtain. Where the ingredient requested is a little unusual–for example, jaggery, which is palm sugar–the author suggests readily available substitutes. (In fact the only ingredient I think I couldn’t find at a regular grocery store is lemon grass; in my part of the United States, you can get that at a regular grocery store with an Asian foods section, though.)
Many of the recipes are lactose-free. Every single one of the recipes is gluten-free if you substitute gluten-free soy sauce and gluten-free cornstarch for the regular versions.
If you have food intolerances, you don’t have time to cook, and you’re looking to eat well, this is just amazing.”
She gives it these Thai, Vietnames and Indian slow cooker recipes an A+ and 5.0 out of 5 stars.
