Onion Rings

Onion rings aren't something you want to eat every day, but for a real treat they can't be beat.

Sometimes you just want that diner taste without the hassle or expense of eating out.

Homemade onion rings and hamburgers will fill the bill!

Although these tasty crunchy rings are one of North Americas favorite fast food recipes, they pair perfectly with a good grilled steak too.

This onion ring recipe has a beer batter.

The addition of a can of beer makes the batter a bit tangy, very tender and crispy.

Try these fried rings as part of a fun diner night.

Onion Ring Recipe

Prep time:

Cook time:

1 1/2 cups flour
12 ounces beer
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 large Bermuda, Vidalia or Spanish onions
vegetable oil
salt to taste

Combine the flour, beer and 1/4 teaspoon salt, stirring well. Cover and let stand at room temperature 1 1/2 - 2 hours.

Peel the onions. Cut into 1/4 inch thick slices and separate into rings. Dip the rings into the beer mixture. Fry in deep hot oil (about 400ºF) until golden brown. Drain on paper towels, and sprinkle immediately with salt.

To eat them when they are crispy onion frings are best served immediately after frying.

Makes 6-8 servings.
