freezer strawberry jam

Strawberry freezer jam is perfect for those who want the taste of strawberry jam without the bit of extra work that comes with regular jam making.

This is a perfect jam recipe for those who want a small batch of jam.

The recipe only uses one quart of berries.

Of course it can be multiplied if you want a larger amount.

Prep time:

Cook time:

Ingredients:
1 quart strawberries
4 cups sugar
3/4 cup water
1 package powdered pectin

Directions:
Crush the fully ripe fruit. Measure 2 cups. Add the sugar. Stir over low heat until the sugar dissolves. Combine the water and pectin in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and boil hard for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Add the pectin to the fruit mixture. Continue to cook, stirring about 3 minutes.

Ladle quickly into sterilized glasses. Cover the jam with tight lids. Let stand until set (about 24 hours). Store in the freezer.

This recipe will make about 3 to 4 jars of jam, depending on the size of your jars.

Cooking Tips
Note:
  • You can also store this freezer jam in the refrigerator if it will be used within 3 weeks.
  • Empty plastic yogurt containers with plastic lids make great unbreakable "jars" for freezer jam.

Did You Know?...

Just make sure you are cooking it in a pot that is large enough so the boiling jam won't spill over.

The strawberries you use in this recipe should be quite ripe, but not overripe. Just make sure they are as fully flavored as possible.

Freezer jam has a bit of a different texture and flavor than regular jam. It tends to taste more like the fresh fruit it is made from.

Personally, I like both versions. Either way, you just can't beat homemade strawberry jam.
