If you like a bit of heat you will love this easy chicken burger recipe with jerk seasoning. It can be tricky to get chicken burgers to be really tasty, but this mix of savory, spicy seasonings do the trick.
2jalapeno peppers, or 1/2 teaspoon hot red chili flakes
1 or 2limes
2clovesgarlic, minced
1/2teaspooncayenne pepper
1/4teaspoonnutmeg
1/4teaspooncinnamon
1/4teaspoonsalt
1 1/2teaspoonsoil
Instructions
Place the ground chicken or turkey in a medium-sized bowl. Seed and finely chopped the peppers and add them to the meat. Finely grate 2 teaspoons of peel from the lime and squeeze out 1 tablespoon of juice. Add it to the meat, along with the garlic, cayenne, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt. Using your hands or a fork, mix it together just until everything is evenly combined.
Shape the mixture into four burgers, each about 1/2 inch thick.
Heat oil in a large nonstick frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the burgers and cook until browned on both sides about four minutes per side, then reduce the heat to medium low. Add a little more oil, if needed. Cover and cook until the burgers feel firm when pressed with your finger and no pink remains in the center, from 2 to 4 more minutes per side.
Split hamburger buns and toast, if you like, then place the chicken burger on the bun. These island style burgers are great topped with sliced tomatoes, lettuce and tangy coleslaw.
And don't forget your favorite hot sauce if you like it island style. Add it to the burger mix and on top if you love heat.
