1 1/2 cupsrolled oats , uncooked, (gluten free if you need them to be)
1/2 cupfresh cilantro, chopped
1/2teaspooncumin
1/4teaspoonturmeric
1/4teaspooncayenne pepper, (or jalapeno pepper, chopped or hot sauce to your taste)
1teaspoonsalt
teaspoonblack pepper
2eggs, lightly beaten
2tablespoonsvegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
Add the beans to a large bowl and mash them really well with a fork.
Add the chopped onions, garlic, oats, cilantro, cumin, turmeric, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper. Once it is all mixed together well, add the beaten eggs and mix everything together.
Shape the black bean mixture into 8 patties.
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the black bean patties and cook for about 5 minutes on each side until they are lightly browned.
Place the burgers on a bun. Garnish with your favorite burger toppings, like lettuce, sliced tomatoes, chopped or sliced onions, sliced or grated cheese or salsa.
Serves 4 to 8
Notes
Alternate Serving Suggestion:
If you don't want the bun, these black bean patties are wonderful served on their own with sliced tomatoes, rice and a salad. Or whatever else you are in the mood for.
