I love smoothies, especially fruit smoothie recipes. The pluses to fruit smoothies are threefold - they are easy to make, taste GREAT and can be very healthy for you.

Low cal fruit smoothies are easy to make with low fat yogurt and fruits. You can also make unsweetened smoothies, great for weight watchers and diabetics.

I have listed a variety of smoothie recipes here for you. Some of them are very healthy smoothie recipes, others can be adapted if you want them even healthier. For example, you can use low fat yogurt, ice cream or fruit juices to mix with the other ingredients.

Try these recipes to find the ones you and your family like best. Then begin to experiment with a variety of fruits, juices and yogurts to see what fruit smoothies are your family favorites.

Cooking Tips

General Smoothie Tips:
  • If smoothie seems too thick, just add a bit of low fat milk or water and blend again.
  • Freeze over ripe bananas and use them to thicken your smoothies if you want a dairy free version.
  • Any smoothie can be made dairy free or sugar free. Use fruit juices or water to add to protein powder and fruit for a dairy free smoothie, and use all sugar free ingredients for a sugarless smoothie.
  • Ice cubes added to the blender with the other ingredients will give you a thick, icy cold smoothie.
  • A tip for diabetics - Obviously diabetics have to watch the amount of fruit they eat/drink. I suggest NOT using fruit juice to thin the smoothie. I use yogurt and/or water.
