This taco seasoning mix recipe is so quick and easy to put together and tastes go good, you won’t want to buy the little packages again.
A while ago I was craving tacos. I hadn’t purchased taco seasoning for a long time and what I discovered was that, for some reason, the packaged seasoning mix made me ill. I decided that from now on I will just make my own. It’s easy and it is healthier, because you know what is in it and you know it contains no preservatives or other strange ingredients.
This taco seasoning mix is gluten free and low carb. You can use it to season tacos or grilled chicken, even grilled vegetables. It also fits in with our diabetic recipes very well.
Taco Seasoning Mix Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons dried onion, onion powder
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano, dried
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
Instructions
- Mix all the seasonings together for your own homemade taco seasoning mix.
- You can easily multiply this homemade taco seasoning mix many times and store it in a sealed container for a few months. When you want to make tacos, just measure out about 4 tablespoons of the mixture to add to the meat.

To Make The Tacos:
1 pound ground beef, chicken or turkey
Taco seasoning mix above
1/2 small onion, chopped
1 small tomato, chopped
12 taco shells
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, combine the ground meat with homemade taco seasoning mix. Add the chopped onion and tomatoes. Cook the mixture for 7 to 8 minutes or until the meat is no longer pink.
Spoon the meat mixture into the taco shells and add your favorite toppings. See our list of suggested toppings below.
