Great Super Bowl Recipes

Perfect Super Bowl recipes

Sharing is caring!

On Sunday, January 15, 1967, the Kansas City Chiefs faced off against the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl I. Ever since then, the Super Bowl party was on.

A Super Bowl party is nothing without great food and we’ve got lots of great Super Bowl recipes here ready for the big day.

I have chosen a mix of traditional Super Bowl recipes: the buffalo wings with blue cheese dip, barbecue chicken and ribs, great burgers and chili; with some new ideas. Plus all the sides, nibbles and finger foods you will need so that, no matter what kind of party you are hosting – a full dinner or lots of nibbles and appetizers, you have a great selection of ideas here.

And how about this idea – A Make Your Own Sub Sandwich Bar. You will find all the ideas and ingredients you need to set up an easy Sub sandwich bar and let your guests create their own hero sandwiches.

Super Bowl day is not usually a day to worry about calories and eating healthy, but we have a nod to new healthier eating in the menus too. Turkey chili, a baked pasta with lots of veggies, whole wheat pizza crust and sweet potato chips.

Can’t end the big game without dessert, but the day calls for a few easy dessert recipes that can be made ahead and that is what you will find listed here.

Last but not least, I’ve taken some of these football party recipes and created some interesting Super Bowl menu ideas you might like. There are dinner ideas, a menu for an appetizers only party, plus great buffet style menu ideas.

Take your pick, mix and match, cook up a storm, then sit back and enjoy the game. I hope your team wins!

Make Your Own Sub or Hero Sandwich Bar

Here is an idea you might like for the big day. Let everyone make their own hero sandwiches (or whatever you call mixed meat and vegetable sandwiches with lots of toppings in your neighborhood. In my area we call them Subs. In some areas they are called hoagies or heros. Whatever you call them, just set everything up and let people put their own spin on a great sandwich. Little work for you and everyone will love getting exactly what they want on their freshly made sandwich.

I would suggest that if you are using long crusty rolls you cut them in half across the length. That way people can make a couple of sandwiches if they want, and have them totally different.

  • Crusty white rolls or sub rolls, sliced
  • Whole wheat rolls for those who want to eat healthier, sliced
  • A selection of meats, cold cuts or cooked meat – Sliced chicken or turkey, pastrami, ham, roast beef
  • Cooked bacon slices
  • 2 or 3 cheeses – 1 mild, 1 regular, 1 hot or smoked
  • Tuna Salad
  • Egg Salad
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Thinly sliced cucumbers
  • Sliced or chopped red and green peppers
  • Pickled jalapeno peppers, sliced
  • Sliced red onions
  • Bean sprouts or alfalfa sprouts
  • Sliced pickles
  • Sliced green and or black olives
  • Roasted or grilled peppers
  • Sliced mushrooms
  • Sliced avocado
  • Guacamole
  • Hummus
  • Sub sauce – Sub sauce is really just a vinaigrette or oil and vinegar based salad dressing. We have lots on the site. Have a look at one recipe here.
  • Mayonnaise
  • Mustard
  • Garlic aioli
  • Your favorite hot sauces

  1. Dear Karen. Thank you for the Mexican recipe.
I will not be cooking for a number of months. I am leaving next week for 2 or
3 months in Florida. I will say Hello when I return.. ( I am lucky I have some one to prepare my meals). Stay Well. Lucy.
